"So Going Around Cities" was a twelve-hour intervention on the Militaerbrücke, which crosses the Sihl river behind the Theater Gesnerallee in Zürich. The intervention consisted of me walking back and forth across the bridge for twelve hours, starting at six in the morning and ending at six in the evening.

The piece deals with the idea of rhythm and time in the city, with three dimensions coinciding: the rhythm of the river as it flows through the city; the rhythm of the city itself as it moves through different periods of the day; and lastly my own rhythm, crossing and re-crossing the bridge, parallel to the rhythms of the city and the river.

The piece is a meditation on the city, its rhythm and how our own individual rhythms contribute and conflict with the city's rhythm. The river represents the endless flow of time, cutting across all these other fields of rhythm.

The title "So Going Around Cities" is after a poem by the American poet Ted Berrigan, whose work was often written in cities, about cities and had an acute sense for time passing and the rhythms of life.
