"FM Wireless Mic 1 State" was made with the FM Wireless Mic 1 State, which is the name of the d.i.y. radio transmitter/microphone kit I assembled to send input to another radio (an old Sony portable), which I recorded directly from its output jack or by taping contact microphones to its speaker. I also used the radio transmitter and the sony portable to create feedback loops, which I recorded with condenser microphones in my studio. In this piece I was interested in using the radio as both a means of recording distant signals from the transmitter and the radio transmission itself as a source of sound and a way of altering the broadcast signals. None of the sounds in the piece were processed in any way with plug-ins, etc. All sounds were generated using the FM transmitter with built-in microphone and the sony portable radio. top |
